Re: I just got these coins
Are you guys serious that dollar coins turn up in your circulating change? Here, the only time you'll find a half dollar or a non-looney dollar coin is if some kid had to raid the parents collectibles for lunch money.

Re: I just got these coins
Yeah - I even spend the state quarters. Everyone and their brother is saving them. It amazes me when I'm in a coin store and there is a constant parade of people with a list buying state quarters. I'm too old to ever see them be worth anything. Give me silver, silver, silver. LOL
BTW - The Arizona quarter will be out June 2 at the capitol, where we can supposedly buy rolls. And if you're under 18 you will get one FREE. Also supposed to be rolls in Wells Fargo banks. The bank is a lot closer and less hassle I would think. |

Re: I just got these coins
All coins with a metal content worth less than their face value should be converted into other forms of money as soon as possible. Some suggested forms of money for which these pieces of (near-)fiat currency may be traded are: rice, toilet paper, soap, gasoline, wood, vintage collectables, coffee, teapots or books...

Re: I just got these coins
Two things I have learned about the US Presidential Dollars.
First, few US Residents know what they are. I get them from the bank and so far have only been thretened once with having the police called because I was passing funny money. Second, if you compare the US Presidential dollar with the Looney they are the same size and shape. It leads me to wonder if one is meant to be a copy of the other, or if one day they are expected to trade on par. Knowing the Looney is worth more than a USD. |
Re: I just got these coins
I spend them all the time. I've never had anyone threaten to call the cops, but I have had a few call their manager over to have a look. Once the cashier got all excited and called a co-worker over who was collecting them. When the first George Washingtons came out, most cashiers quickly learned what they were. Now that the series is over a year old, I get more confused looks from cashiers. That tells me they probably haven't been working as a cashier for over a year and a half since the George Washingtons came out.
Unfortunate that unless Carter dies there won't be a Ronald Reagan dollar. I'd go to the bank, get a couple of big boxes of those and teach the young sheeple cashiers what a real President was all about. |

I was filliing up my kennedy folder the other day with 70s coins and most in BU were 1.25 each. So if you are filling a folder and want them sometimes you have to pay a premium but if you get them in change they're not really worth saving unless BU. I spent a quincy adams last night in a vending machine, it was fun. |
